Due to the World Cup performance of Bruno Fernandez for Portugal, Real Madrid is once again interested in bringing the Manchester United playmaker to Spain over the forthcoming transfer windows.
Real Madrid’s interest in signing Bruno Fernandes from Manchester United is not expected to sway him.
At the World Cup in Qatar, Fernandes was instrumental in Portugal’s 2-0 victory over Uruguay on Monday.
The aggressive midfielder scored both goals for his team, advancing them into the round of 16 with one game remaining.
Despite the fact that the January transfer window closed only a month ago, rumors have picked up steam as the World Cup has increased demand for certain players.
According to reports in Portugal, Real have rekindled their desire to sign Fernandes, who was a Sporting player when they first tried to sign him.
Following his transfer from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, the Portuguese midfielder rapidly established himself as one of the team’s most crucial players, but his form and impact have dramatically declined over the previous 12 months.
During the unimpressive interim administration of Ralf Rangnick, Fernandes appeared to be a shadow of the player he once was, but under Ten Hag, he has shown signs of regaining his form.
Ahead of the second half of the Premier League season, United supporters will not be blind to the fact that Fernandes and Marcus Rashford, another player who has been rejuvenated by the Dutchman, are presently shining at the World Cup.
Even if Fernandes’ improved performances this year were still hampered by the lack of his goalscoring touch, Ten Hag has already been vocal in his support of the midfielder.
Since joining United, Fernandes has played in 146 games and provided 53 goals and 42 assists, although more recently, he has struggled with extended dry spells.
Before the midseason break, he had amassed three goals and three assists, but his spectacular double in Portugal’s 2-0 victory over Uruguay is the clearest sign yet that the midfielder is back in action.
“Yes, Bruno is performing admirably this year, and I can tell from that that he can provide more goals and assists,” said Ten Hag.
The Manchester United manager is unlikely to consider offloading one of the club’s most important players.
According to the Portuguese publication Record, Fernandes is “complete and satisfied” at United but has not ruled out moving on if doing so would further his career.
United had gone five years without a trophy since winning the Europa League in 2017, long before Fernandes arrived.
