Lautaro Martinez has shared how Inter drew inspiration from Argentina’s World Cup victory as they reached the final of the Champions League. Inter secured a 3-0 aggregate win over AC Milan in the semi-finals, earning them a spot in the 2023 Champions League final. Martinez played a crucial role in their success, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory in the second leg. Having won the World Cup with Argentina less than six months ago, Martinez now has the opportunity to add the European Cup to his collection. He believes that the unity and togetherness displayed by the team in the World Cup has been a driving force for Inter in Europe.
“Before the game, I told the guys: ‘We’ve done a great job.’ The team’s unity is the most important thing. I saw it at the World Cup,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “If the group is united and goes in the same direction, things become easier. Inter deserve to win these nights. We always work to improve and I want to give my best. After the World Cup, we knew we had another chance to reach the final and here we are. Whoever the opponent is, it will be the last game, we have arrived here and want to go as high as possible.”
Regardless of their opponent in the final on June 10 in Istanbul, Martinez is determined to give his best and push Inter as high as possible.
Inter is likely to be considered underdogs in the final, as they will face either holders Real Madrid or Manchester City, with the semi-final tie currently at 1-1. Inter’s focus will temporarily shift to Serie A, as they have a match against newly-crowned league champions Napoli on Sunday. They will then turn their attention to the Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina on Wednesday.
